José Escamilla

Associate Director of the Institute for the Future of Education Tecnológico de Monterrey

Jose Escamilla is Associate Director of the Institute for the Future of Education of Tecnológico de Monterrey (https://tec.mx/es/ife). The purpose of the Institute is to generate, transfer and disseminate applicable knowledge on educational innovation, connecting, inspiring and accompanying those seeking disruptive solutions for the future of higher education and lifelong learning. He was director of TecLabs, Dean of the Graduate School of Education and Director of Educational Innovation. José Escamilla has worked in the use of technologies in education, artificial intelligence, online education and various educational innovation projects. He is a computer systems engineer from Tecnológico de Monterrey and holds a Master's and PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble.

Oscar Jerez Yañez

Associate Director for Higher Education

Oscar Jerez Yañez holds a PhD in Psychology and Education, and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Psychology and Education, from Universidad de Granada in Spain, in conjunction with Universidad di Torino in Italy and University of Geneva, Switzerland. Master in Education, with mention in Educational Informatics from Universidad de Chile, Bachelor in Philosophy from the Università Pontificia Salesiana di Roma and Bachelor in Philosophy from Universidad de Chile. Double degree in Education and Professor of Philosophy from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Consultant and advisor for several governmental and higher education entities in Latin America, Europe and Africa. Oscar Jerez has taught undergraduate and graduate programs on Quality Management, Teaching in higher education and co-creator of Teaching and Learning Centers or "Teaching and Learning Center" in more than 40 universities in the world. He has been head of Education & Business projects at the Sociedad de Fomento Fabril (SOFOFA) and Innovation Coordinator of the Undergraduate Department of Universidad de Chile. He works with the International Cooperation of the European Union in projects to support higher education in Africa and Latin America. Recognized both nationally and internationally for his diverse academic actions, consultancies and professional work in higher education for more than 20 years. Founder of: the Latin American Network of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (LatinSoTL); the National Network of Teaching Support Units (REDCAD); the Latin American Association of Teaching and Learning Centers; the Journal of Innovation and Research in Higher Education, among other initiatives. Author of teaching books, articles, and research in his lines of action, FONDECYT projects, which focus on Higher Education, especially in: innovation and ICTs, curriculum and teacher development; and in Management and Quality Assurance. Founder of the Higher Education Training Program (FES) at Universidad de Chile. Currently Oscar Jerez is: Director/Founder of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universidad de Chile; Adjunct Researcher, Center for Advanced Research in Education, Universidad de Chile; Associate Director for Higher Education, LASPAU affiliated with Harvard University; Adjunct Professor, Department of Health Sciences Education, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de Chile; Member of the faculty of university teaching courses in the Doctorates in Business (FEN) and Engineering Sciences (FCFM) of Universidad de Chile; and in training management in the Doctorate in Strategic Management of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; regular member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL); member of the Advisory Committee for Institutional Accreditation of the National Accreditation Commission (CNA).

Contributions’ Modalities

From panel, ignite and poster sessions to workshops, participants will be able to share experiences, gain new knowledge and collaborate to jointly design the future of innovation in teaching and learning:

  • Panel sessions: The panel session will feature a stimulating 30-minute presentation by two experts in the field, followed by a 15-20 minute debate with the audience under the guidance of the Chair.
  • Poster sessions: A presenter may deliver a short talk or conduct a demonstration of an interesting and attractive poster. It will be 90 minute sessions with rounds of presentation, but much of the time will take up with queries & answers.
  • Ignite sessions: sessions of 45 to 60 minutes with the participation of multiple-speakers, in which all conference participants can attend. Each speaker will be given a five-minute time slot to present their topic, their PowerPoint presentation automatically advances every 15 seconds, creating a truly energetic and dynamic session.
  • Workshops: 3-hour training session (1/2 day) in which the speaker will demonstrate specific knowledge in a less formal and more interactive way with attendees, providing also networking and synergy opportunities among participants.

Conference proceedings will be published.
